Demolition Derby Rules

Ignorance of these rules is no excuse

August 2, 2008 Demolition Derby

 
 
1.  All drivers must know and obey these rules for safety or they will be disqualified.

2.  Derby is open to valid licensed drivers age 16 or older.

3.  Driver's must have a valid drivers license and fill out and sign derby release forms to participate.

4.  Safety Equipment: Seat belts and shoulder harnesses are required; will be worn and tested; an

     approved crash helmet will also be worn; a 2 1/2 lb. dry chemical fire extinguisher at the right

     of the driver is mandatory. A roll bar is optional, however, a roll bar may not structurally re-

     inforce the car.

5.  ANY DRIVER AND/OR PIT CREW SUSPECTED OR CAUGHT CONSUMING ALCOHOLIC

     BEVERAGES OR DRUGS, BEFORE OFFICIALS OR DURING THE RACES, WILL BE

     DISQUALIFIED. THIS WILL BE PATROLLED BY MISSION VALLEY SPEEDWAY.

6.  American passenger cars and standard station wagons only - no Jeeps, pickups or ambulances.

     No cutting of any body parts; however, if a car has prior damage, necessary cutting will be allowed.

     No reinforcing of frame or body parts, except for the drivers door. Radiator must remain in original

     position. ALL EQUIPMENT MUST BE STANDARD. NO STUDDED SNOW TIRES. NO BODY

      ALTERATIONS. See Rule #24.

7.   IMPORTANT!! All glass and mirrors, inside and out, must be removed and loose parts inside the

      car and trunk removed. Headliners and inside door panels must be removed.

8.   The drivers door MUST be painted white. White cars must have black drivers door. The drivers

      door MUST be reinforced. Reinforcement material cannot extend more than 2" beyond the outer

      limits of the upright door posts.

9.   Car must have a number on LEFT FRONT DOOR and be at least 12" in height.

10. Original gas tanks MUST be removed; a supplemental tank (maximum 6 gallon capacity) shall

      be placed in the rear passenger area, and RIGIDLY SECURED and covered.

11. No reserve water tanks. ABSOLUTELY NO ANTIFREEZE!!  Auxiliary transmission coolers OK.

12. A screen must be placed over the drivers windshield. No screen with larger than 1" squares. 1/2 " Recommended.

13. Battery must be secured inside of the car on the floor, in front of the passenger seat and covered.

      2 batteries are allowed.

14. Engines must be in original location and must have factory motor mounts - engines may be chained

      down.

15. Car engine hood MUST be chained - not pinned or bolted - and MUST be able to be opened for

      inspection. Two 8" fire holes are required in motor hood, one on each side.

16. Door and trunk lids may be chained or welded shut - but not reinforced. If trunk is permanently

      shut, an inspection hole of 12" to 15" is required. No more than four 1" welds may be used per

      door or trunk seam.

17. Ether or Starting fluid may not be used in the arena. If found in the car during or after the race,

      car, driver and crew are disqualified.

18. First, Second and Third place cars will be inspected in the arena immediately following the

      championship heat. All cars in the championship heat must remain in the arena during inspection.

19. NO altering or increasing weight of car. No sand or concrete can be used in any part of the auto,

      including the tires. Trailer hitches of any type must be completely removed so no reinforcement

      remains under the auto. Towing from the arena will be done by specific authorization of Demo

      Committee.

20. ANYTHING IN QUESTION NOT COVERED BY A RULE WILL BE VOTED ON BY

      DRIVERS OR DEMO COMMITTEE. THE MAJORITY RULES.

21. IMMEDIATE DISQUALIFICATION WILL RESULT IF YOU: Hit a drivers door.

      (EXCEPTION - If pushed into the drivers door by another car) if you remove your seat belt

      or helmet, or leave your car for any reason during the race. (EXCEPTION - If your car is on fire)

22. Any abusive language or action directed toward derby officials will result in the Disqualification

      of Vehicle, Driver, and Pit Crew. JUDGES RULE WILL BE FINAL IN ALL MATTERS.

23. If your car is disqualified by these rules, the entry fee WILL NOT BE REFUNDED!!

24. Largest tire allowed: LT 235/75 15; 700 x 15 LT

25. ALL DRIVERS ENTER AT THEIR OWN RISK.

RELEASE WAIVER OF LIABILITY: I hereby agree to conform with the rules governing this

contest. I agree to hold blameless Mission Valley Auto Racers and Members, Local Management,

Track Owners or Leasees for any loss or injury to myself or my property by reason of participation

in this contest. I also agree that if my car is not removed from the premises I will be fined $100.00.
