CLASS RULES ARE FROZE FOR 5 YEARS.  2006-2011


LIMITED LATE MODEL RULES 2006-2011

1. INTRODUCTION

A. NO EXPRESS OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OR SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM PUBLICATIONS OF OR COMPLIANCE WITH THESE RULES AND/OR REGULATIONS.

B. It is the responsibility of the driver of the car to see that his/her car completely satisfies the rules, including but not limited to all safety rules. The driver of each car represents to the promoter and all others that his/her car has satisfied all applicable rules, including but not limited to safety rules, whenever such driver participates in warm-up, practice or competitive laps.

2. INTENT

A. The intent of this class is to present a late model style division, without the continuously rising costs that occur from unrestricted engines, and the quest for the newest innovation in suspension components. A Handicap system will be used in an attempt to attract and include a wide range of chassis design. Engines are limited both in compression ratio and carburetion. Weight breaks are designed to chassis according to the level of sophistication.

General Tech inspections are open for observation of super drivers and their crews.

3. COMPETING MODELS

1) Competing models are limited to 1983 or newer American or Canadian Passenger car or pickup bodies.

4. GENERAL CAR AND BODY REQUIREMENTS

A. General Car:

1) Fiberglass replica bodies are mandatory. Aluminum door panels, trunk lid and rear spoilers shall be permitted. Plastic Fenders, Noses and tails are permitted.
2) Competitors will be required to keep their cars neat appearing and maintained.
3) Bodies to remain stock appearing, complete with bumpers.
4) Must have all body panels to race (consideration will be made to start main event, if damage occurred in preliminaries).
5) No exterior rub-rails or reinforcing. Jack points and trailer hold down hooks must not exceed beyond bodylines. Body must be kept neat and free of jagged edges.

B. Interiors:

1) Interior area of car must be completely enclosed in respect to engine, track surface, tires and fuel cell (trunk area).
2) All panels in the immediate area of the driver must be constructed of steel minimum 22 gauge (including floor, front and rear firewalls and transmission tunnel).
3) Other interior panels may be .040 aluminum.
4) Driver must be completely shielded from battery - subject to the Mission Valley Speedways General Safety Rules.

C. Overall Car Weight:

1) All cars will be weighed and the ride height checked with the driver in the car prior to the main event and shall proceed directly to staging lanes.
2) Top 3 cars will be weighed after main event on Specialty events and championship nights. And 4th and 5th place cars will be on stand-by.
3) Maximum weight on the left side 57% with driver.
4) Minimum weight for all Super Stock classes will be 2800 lbs, (note late model exception below).
5) Weight Handicap Guidelines:
a) Type 1 Stock clip with stock spindles and iron brakes.

i. a. 8.5 lbs. per cubic inch

b) Type 2 Stock clip with after market spindles and brake components.

i. 8.75 lbs. per cubic inch

c) Type S Stock clip with stock rear suspension design and stock spindles with iron brakes.

i.  a. 8.25 tbs. per cubic inch.

D. Weight Exception:

1) Cars (i.e.: Late Models) running Dry Sumps, Ford Motorsport or N heads, and Chrysler Stage 4 heads that want to run with this class need to switch to two barrel carbs and bring total weight up to 3250. Cars (i.e.: Late Models) running Iron Eagle 215 heads, or Pro Topline 220 heads must switch to two-barrel carbs and must bring total weight up to 3350. Maximum left side weight including driver is 56% but subject to change with the 70% approval of the class drivers and MVS board members. Late Model = Kalispell Raceway Park present year rules, except no fuel injection allowed.

5. DETAILED CAR BODY REQUIREMENTS

A. No “Down-force bodies” or Down-force components allowed.

B. Front Air Dam and Nose:

1) Front air dams optional, subject to stock appearing.

C. Rear Spoilers:

1) Spoilers may be added to rear deck lid ONLY. May be a maximum of 6.5 inches deep, measured from intersection with deck lid to tallest point, no wider than rear quarter panels. No airfoils. No side verticals.

D. Windshields:

1) Windshield area to be completely covered, tempered Plexiglas or Lexan.
2) Windshield straps subject to tech advisor approval.

E. Rear Window:

1) Rear window opening must be filled to complete roofline.

F. Side Windows, Quarter Windows, Air Deflectors and Net:

1) Window net mandatory on drivers side, right side window to remain open.

G. Rear View Mirror:

1) Mirrors shall be permitted.

H. Dash Panel:

I. Firewalls:

J. Doors:

K. Quarter and Rocker Panels:

L. Grilles:

M. Hood: No forward facing hood scoops

N. Roof:

O. Rear Deck Lids:

P. Bumpers and Rear Filler Panel:

Q. Identification and Marking:

1) All cars must have their weight and type clearly marked on the upper left corner of their windshield.
2) Example:         #44,  3170T,       Type S

6. GENERAL ENGINE REQUIREMENTS

1) Cast iron engine blocks and cylinder heads only.

7. DETAILED ENGINE REQUIREMENTS

A. Engine Location:

1) Crankshaft centerline should be centered between lower ball joints +/- ½. Minimum height to be 11” with the driver in the car.
2) Forward most spark plug shall be no more than 3 ½ inch set back from centerline of upper ball joint for Type S, Type I and Type 2 cars.
3) V-6 engines should be positioned so that the bell housing placement equals that of a similar V-8 car.

B. Engine Displacement:

1) Maximum Cubic inch for all classes shall be 360 (+.040” Mopar only).

C. Engine Compression Ratio:

D. Internal Changes:

1) Forged or nodular iron crankshafts only. After market cranks permitted but should be approximate weight of the like O.E. piece.
2) No aftermarket drive devices (2 sprocket chain only).
3) Pistons must have 2 compression rings and one 3/16" oil ring. Flat top pistons only.

E. Piston/Rods:

1) Connecting rod must be steel (forged or billet) length optional.

F. Oil Pans and Coolers:

G. Cylinder Heads:

1) Cylinder heads must be O.E. origin unless otherwise stated.
a) Small block GM straight plug only

i. World Products S/R Torque and Chevy Bow Tie heads shall be permitted.

ii.  No “Vortec Bow Tie” Heads

iii. Maximum valve diameter 2.05/1.6

b) Small block Chrysler

i.  W-2 permitted (as cast). Maximum valve diameter 2.02/1.6.

c) Ford

i. Roush 180 and 200 head with maximum valve size 2.02”, Intake 1.6” Exhaust shall be permitted.

ii. 351 "c" 2bbl. (open chamber heads only on Windsor blocks) Fabricated spacers may not exceed 1/2" thick.

iii. World product Windsor Jr. and Windsor Sr. permitted. Maximum valve diameter 2.02”, Intake and 1.6” Exhaust shall be permitted.

iv. No Ford N heads.

d) Use of 'form tool" or 'bowl hog" OK, cut not to exceed depth of 1” into valve pocket. All work to be concentric to guide centerline. No hand blending.
e) Intake ports may be matched to the gasket on the head side only. May not exceed 3/8'.
f) Roller rockers and stud girdles permitted. Stud type rockers only, except Chrysler.
g) Milling is permitted on the gasket surfaces only.

H. Camshaft, Valve Lifters, and Rocker Arms:

1) Flat tappet camshafts only, no mushroom.
2) Lifter diameter to match engine as produced.

I. Intake Manifold:

1) Iron intakes are allowed, 1 5/8" spacer including gasket. Aluminum intakes are allowed, 1" spacer.

J. Carburetor:

1) Carburetors must be in “as produced condition", not flowed or reworked.
2) Choke butterfly and linkage may be removed. Normal tuning changes such as jets, power valves and pump nozzles shall be permitted.
3) Class carburetor for all sportsman types shall be Holley list 4412. 1-3/8 Ventura, 1-11/16 throttle plates.
4) No Ram Air or Forced Air induction.  No Sealed Cowl Induction.
5) Fresh air may not be pulled from the front of the car.

6) No tubes, funnels, or any other device which may control the flow of air is permitted inside of the air cleaner or between the air cleaner and the carburetor.

8. ENGINE/CAR ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

A. Ignition System:

1) Ignition may be single coil type with breaker in distributor, no magnetos, no capacitor discharge, no crank triggers. M.S.D. style OK.

B. Battery:

1) One 12 to 18 volt passenger car battery only.

C. Electrical Switches and Locations:

1) A labeled ON-OFF switch shall be located on the roll bar behind the driver’s seat. The switch must be wired to the battery in a manner that will cut off all electrical power to the car.

D. Accessories:

1) No on-board computers, traction devices, automated electronics, recording devices, or digital readout gauges are permitted.

E. Radios:

1) Radios optional, however if used all radio frequencies will be given to the head judge, posted for the fans and monitored by track officials. Spotters will have a designated area in the pits and must be available for the pit officials to speak to during each super stock race.
2) Radio Penalties: If in the opinion of the monitoring officials that there has been any un-sportsman like use of the radios, the driver will lose all points for the night and shall leave the grounds for the remainder of the evening. If a driver refuses to turn over frequencies used, or changes them without notifying officials, driver will not be allowed to race until correcting the problem.

9. ENGINE LUBRICATION Oil

A. Oiling System:

1) Wet sump oil system only (single stage pump) must be OEM design with chosen engine.
2) Synthetic oil is permitted. To help speed up oil clean up you must inform MVAR officials that you are using synthetic oil.

10. ENGINE EXHAUST SYSTEM

A. Exhaust Manifold:

1) Exhaust headers permitted; mufflers required subject to Mission Valley Speedways noise requirements.

B. Exhaust Pipes:

1) Exhaust system must exit behind or away from driver.
2) Exhaust must be shielded from contact with driver or safety personnel in the event of an emergency.

11. DRIVE TRAIN

A. Clutch:

1) Minimum clutch diameter must be 4.5" and shall be mounted on the crankshaft.
2) Cars wishing to compete with internal clutch transmission (Brinn, Bert) shall use a flywheel weighing a minimum of 18 lbs.

B. Bell Housing:

1) Multi-disc clutches (Tilton, Quartermaster) may use aluminum bell housing.

C. Transmission:

1) Transmission should be O.E origin, must have 2 forward gears and reverse in working order.

D. Drive Shaft:

1) Driveline should be painted white and have drive shaft loop to Mission Valley Speedways requirements.

E. Wheels and Lug Bolts:

1) Steel wheels only; nominal 10" max.
2) All cars will have minimum 5/8" lug studs.

F. Tires:

1) New tires shall be MVS Track approved tire purchased at MVS. For the 2005 season, said tire is the Goodyear Tire. Used Goodyear tires shall be inspected and stamped by the tech inspector.
2) No tire soaking. No additives of any kind will be allowed that will alter the tire compound.
3) Tire bleeders are permitted
4) Tires may be inflated with nitrogen.

G. Tire Usage Rules:

1) Six tires maximum allowed per car on the first weekend with one tire per weekend available for purchase per super stock race thereafter. No banking tires, (i.e.: if you do not purchase your one tire for the weekend, you are only allowed one again at the next race, not two) No tires will be available for the last two race dates.

12. FRAME REQUIREMENTS

A. Cross members may be altered to accommodate front sump engines in GM clips. Suspension pivots must remain in original position.

13. SUSPENSION

A. General Suspension:

1) Chassis may be fully fabricated but should have a stock front clip (sub-frame), cups with straight frame rails, such as a mid 1970 Camaro, must be attached to the lowest point of the rails. Clips with kick out frame rails, such as Chevelle, Monte Carlo or Galaxy must utilize enough stock to neatly match fabricated frame.
2) Competing cars must fit in one of 3 subclasses: Type 1, Type 2, or Type S.
a) Type 1 Super Stock is defined as a stock front clip or fabricated clip with lower control arms in stock location and retains original dimensions. No coil over springs or shocks.

i. O.E. spindles unaltered (steering arm may be shortened or lengthened).

ii. Steering box to remain in original position.

iii. O.E. brake components (calipers and rotors). Hubs must have 5x5 bolt pattern.

b) Type 2 Super Stock will be cars meeting Class 1 front clip requirements, and having the following:

i. Aluminum brake components, and/or wide 5 hubs (Dillon or Star-lite).

ii. Non-OEM, or fabricated spindles and/or rack and pinion steering.

c) Type S Super Stock must meet requirements for stock front clip, plus:

i. Maintain original frame rails (rocker boxes) back to the rear axle centerline.

ii. Rear suspension points remain stock.

iii. Front and rear must meet the Street Stock rules.

B. Front Suspensions:

1) Upper control arms and mounts may be fabricated. OEM lower control arms must retain stock dimensions, aftermarket bushings and ball joints permitted.

C. Rear Suspensions:

1) Leaf spring cars may use weight jack described in Street Stock
2) Models having coil-spring O.E. rear suspension must retain stock lower control arms. Upper link and pan hard bar may be relocated.
3) Truck arms permitted.
4) Fabricated rear suspension should be parallel leaf springs (with dampener) or 3pt. with 5" coils.
a) No spring bars on lower links.
b) Spring centerline should not share shock centerline - subject to weight adjustment.
5) Floater rear hubs recommended - quick change optional.
a) Non-floated axis may be permitted if equipped with approved aftermarket (William's or sway away) axils, and/or some method of hub retention. Must run caliper, pads and rotor.
b) Rear-ends with inboard brakes, open tube, or aluminum housings will be subject to additional weight concessions.

D. Shock Absorbers:

1) Steel body shocks only aluminum subject to added weight.

E. Tread Width Requirements:

1) Maximum track width 69" (front and rear) measured at tire centerline to tire centerline.

F. Wheelbase Requirements:

1) Models with stock wheel base under 102' may be stretched to be included.

G. Body Height Requirements:

1) Minimum ground clearance is 4" measured at all frame rails, side skirts and front spoiler.

14. FUEL

A.    Approved fuels will include aviation gas, racing gasoline, and standard pump gasoline. No alcohol, nitro, or nitrous oxide. Any positive reading on the fuel meter will be deemed illegal. WARNING!  Some pump fuels, such as Cenex Super Un-Leaded; have methanol or ethanol added to them to achieve a higher octane. These are oxygenates and show positive on the fuel meter.

B. Fuel Cell and Fuel Container Installation:

1) Minimum fuel cell height will be 8" measured with driver on level surface.

C. Fuel Pump:

1) Block mounted mechanical fuel pumps only.     
 

15. PERSONAL SAFETY EQUIPMENT AND ROLL BARS

A. Roll Bars:

1) The role cage in the driver’s compartments shall be constructed of round carbon mechanical tubing 1 3/4 -.095-wall thickness or 1 5/8 -.120 wall thickness.
2) Continuous bends only. No butt-welded corners.
3) Inspection holes may be requested.
4) Allowable dimensions for frame rails (2x3x.083) (2x2x.120).

B. Transmission/Clutch Shielding

1) Approved scatter shield or containment method required on all cars.
2) Reinforced belting acceptable as containment method.

 

DRIVERS, CAR OWNERS AND PITMEN IN THIS CLASS SHALL OBSERVE ALL THE MISSION VALLEY AUTO RACERS GENERAL RULES.

If it doesn’t say YOU CAN, YOU CAN’T!

Limited Late Model Class is governed and subject to all Mission Valley Speedways requirements for safety and appearance. Mission Valley Board of Directors reserves the right to interpret and/or adjust any and all rules outlined herein in the interest of competition.

RULES TO BE CHANGED MUST HAVE A 70% MAJORITY VOTE OF THE CLASS DRIVERS OR OWNERS THAT PARTICIPATED IN TWO OR MORE RACES AND 70% MAJORITY VOTE OF BOARD MEMBERS. If car owner or driver can’t be contacted or is contacted and doesn’t reply back to the class representative, the vote for the car would be a NO vote. Any rule changes not voted on by driver or owner will be a NO vote.

 

ONLY in the interest of SAFETY, COST and/or FAIR COMPETITION can 70% of the board of directors make a rule change if the class representative can’t get 70% of the votes from the class drivers or owners.
